Choose tissue-based biomaterials when your device relies on intact tissue structure, such as a patch, valve component or repair matrix. Choose collagen when you need extracted, purified collagen to process into your own format, such as a sponge, gel, film or scaffold. Many programs use both at different stages. For devices sold in the EU, tissue from bovine, ovine and caprine species, deer, elk, mink and cats falls under Regulation (EU) No 722/2012, which adds a documented TSE risk analysis, Notified Body assessment and consultation with competent authorities. Porcine and equine material is not on that list, although ISO 22442 risk management and other requirements still apply. Your regulatory team owns the strategy, and we supply the origin and traceability documents that support it.
